Activities to Support a Child's Success

What types of activities will best support my child’s school success? Have you thought of these ideas?

Traditionally, parental involvement has focused on fundraising and support at recreational events. Though these activities are important to supporting your child and the school, research shows that parental involvement at home that supports what children are learning at school is linked to higher student achievement.

There are many ways you can support your child’s success in school.
Here are some ideas to try:

Read with your child
Help your child with homework
Communicate with your child’s teacher
Play board games with your child. Many skills are taught through board games such as math, reading, spelling, critical thinking, study skills, memory.
Help in your child’s classroom
Speak in the classroom about your cultural background, career or special interest
Serve on a school improvement committee with teachers
Help with a book fair or other special school event
Join the Parent/Teacher Organization
